Who is a good candidate for pellet therapy?

After a man turns 30, he will lose around one percent of his testosterone each year. By the time he reaches his 50s, this gradual change can lead to a host of unwanted physical and mental symptoms, even as a man’s career and personal life may be peaking. Testosterone pellet therapy can help to reduce the effects of hormonal imbalance, optimizing a man’s sexual performance, boosting his energy levels, and improving his overall psychological state.

Signs of low testosterone levels include the following:

  • Reduction in muscle mass
  • Weight gain
  • Mood swings
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Skin laxity
  • Irritability
  • Vulnerability to cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes

If you are experiencing any of these concerns, call today to speak with one of our friendly, experienced practitioners who can get you started with pellet therapy right away.

What is pellet therapy for men?

Testosterone is a hormone found in both male and female bodies. In women, it plays a role in energy output and sex drive, whereas for men, it controls muscle mass, bone density, libido, and sperm production. As men age, they may begin to experience a drop in testosterone levels that can lead to a host of uncomfortable symptoms. This phase of a man’s life is usually referred to as andropause, or the male equivalent of menopause.

Testosterone replacement can be an excellent solution for men who want to look and feel at their prime, even in their later years. Testosterone pellet therapy is one method of replacing hormones as a man ages. Some men prefer pellet therapy as a hormone delivery system, as it has many advantages over injections and creams. In a safe, consistent, and effective fashion, pellets offer a slow release of testosterone over 3-6 months. Pellet therapy is actually the closest thing to the body’s natural system of hormone release.

How does pellet therapy work?

Testosterone replacement is an excellent solution for men who want to look and feel at their prime, even in their later years. During your initial appointment, we will assess your medical history and take blood samples to measure your current testosterone levels. It is important to disclose all medications, supplements, and pills you are currently taking, whether prescription or over-the-counter.

Pellet therapy involves the insertion of a pellet(s) that contain bioidentical hormones compounded down into a tiny pellet that is inserted into the fatty tissue above or below the belt line. The tiny rice-sized pellets remain in the body for 3-6 months, slowly releasing testosterone according to the body’s needs and natural rate of metabolism.

Once the therapy begins, patients can expect to see results gradually over the course of several weeks. Slowly they will notice a gradual uptick in sex drive, mood, and mental focus. While testosterone replacement is available in a variety of forms, including pills, injections, patches, and gels, pellet therapy offers many advantages. Your provider will review your blood work and discuss if pellet therapy is right for you.

How does treatment work?

At Valley Medical Weight Loss, we tailor each testosterone replacement treatment to your unique hormone levels, concerns, and wishes. We stress a balanced lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Step one — Measuring your current testosterone levels

The first step is to find out what is causing your symptoms. This means testing your hormone levels to establish a baseline. Your testosterone, estradiol, PSA, DHT, DHEA, pregnenolone, and cortisol levels will all be assessed. We may also do thyroid testing. This is all completed via your initial bloodwork.

Step two — Medical evaluation

In order to make sure that testosterone replacement therapy will be right for you, following your blood draw, we will schedule your consultation with our BHRT provider who will review your bloodwork, conduct a thorough review of your medical history, and screen for any conditions that might prevent you from undergoing treatment. If you are a candidate based on your medical history and bloodwork, your pellets will be administered at this appointment.

Step three — Monitoring your progress

Four weeks after your testosterone replacement therapy, it will be time to recheck your hormone levels. At this point, we can make adjustments to your treatment plan and fine-tune your therapy to ensure your testosterone is at a therapeutic level.

Step four — Re-treatment

Depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the testosterone pellets, you will return every 5-6 months for new pellets. Bloodwork will be needed annually to continually monitor testosterone levels.
