Kybella logo

Kybella’s® unique active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is found naturally in the human body and helps with the breakdown of fat. We inject Kybella® directly into the excess fat below the chin, destroying the fat cells to help you achieve a slimmer, more sculpted profile. Most patients start to see results within 2-4 sessions. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are gone for good.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable that can non-invasively and non-surgically contour the submental region, removing an unwanted “double chin”. Off-label, it can also be used to minimize fat deposits along the jawline. Kybella® is made with deoxycholic acid, which when injected, metabolizes the fat cells, destroying them so that they never return. While Kybella® can be instrumental in reshaping the profile, it is not a solution for sagging skin or vertical banding in the neck.

How does Kybella® work?

Deoxycholic acid is the active ingredient in Kybella® that allows it to effectively slim and sculpt the profile. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the human body as a molecule responsible for fat breakdown and absorption. When injected, Kybella® helps to destroy stubborn pockets of fat, restoring a slim, youthful appearance and a more positive self-image. Once the fat cells are eliminated, they do not return.

Kybella® is not a good match for those with moderate to severe skin laxity or platysmal neck bands. It is also not recommended for patients who suffer from dysphagia, infection, blood coagulation problems, or those who have undergone prior surgery in the chin and neck area.

What can I expect after Kybella®?

After Kybella® injections, patients may experience minor tenderness, swelling, and redness in the treatment zones. These side effects typically last 5-7 days but will begin decreasing over a period of a few weeks. Many patients need 2-3 treatments to reach their desired results.

Pro-Nox — Pain management for Kybella® injections

Pro-Nox is a safe, popular choice for patients who love the changes they can achieve with Kybella® but who aren’t crazy about needles. The system allows patients to self-administer Nitrous Oxide (N2O) in order to reduce anxiety and stress. N2O is a harmless natural gas with anesthetic properties that is easily flushed out of the system in minutes, making it an excellent alternative to oral pain medications that can impair driving and judgment. If fear of needles is standing in your way of looking your best, consider opting for Pro-Nox during your next appointment.
