GLP-1 inections are only available by prescription. Neither pharmacies nor supermarkets sell it over the counter, and it can only be prescribed by a licensed medical professional to suitable patients.
The injection of GLP-1 may cause side effects. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or are severe: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, heartburn, burping.
GLP-1 injections are not suitable for everyone. It can be prescribed to adults who have obesity, with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30, or who are overweight, with a BMI greater than 27, and have weight-related medical problems such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.
We’ve experienced patients on GLP-1 to lose 10% of their body weight in 20 weeks.
You should not take GLP-1 if you have an allergy to it, if you have multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (tumors in your glands), or if you have a family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (a type of thyroid cancer). If you have diabetic ketoacidosis, see your doctor.
It is not recommended to drink alcohol when taking GLP-1 for weight loss.
Those who make changes to their lifestyle and eating habits while on GLP-1 have a better likelihood of maintaining their weight loss. Failure to introduce new healthy habits can lead to weight gain for those who stop GLP-1.
Treatment with GLP-1 improved body composition by reducing excess body fat, including abdominal fat, and increasing the proportion of lean body mass, or weight that is not body fat. In general, the more body weight a participant lost, the greater the improvement in body composition.
The weight loss physicians at Valley Medical Weight Loss will complete a medical history intake with you and review your current medical condition. For adults, 0.25 milligrams (mg) injected under the skin once a week for four weeks is the initial dosage. Your doctor may increase your dose as necessary. Usually, the dose is no more than 2.4 mg once a week at its maximum dosage. For youth, the doctor will determine the dosage and how often the child should take it.
