Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy delivers next-generation skin rejuvenation! It’s often referred to as the Lumecca IPL photofacial because it restores uneven skin tone. In addition to restoring your youthful complexion, IPL can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions. Let’s dive into the top benefits of Lumecca.

What Is Lumecca IPL Photofacial?

There are a variety of light treatments to choose from, but Lumecca is the gold standard. The therapy works by targeting pigmented areas that are darker than the surrounding skin. The pigmentation absorbs the wavelengths, heating and breaking down pigmentation. Lumecca targets your dark spots without damaging surrounding tissues. This activates your body’s natural healing process. As your cells repair, your dark spots may darken and flake off over the next 24 to 48 hours. The wavelengths also stimulate localized collagen production for anti-aging benefits.

  • Lumecca outshines the competition by:
  • Treating larger surface areas in less time.
  • Treating a wide range of skin types.
  • Fading sunspots more effectively.
  • Providing a more comfortable treatment.
  • Delivering results in 1 to 3 treatments.

Does Lumecca IPL Hurt?

One of the things that differentiates Lumecca from its competition is that it has a cooling system built in. In addition to the cooling gel applied before your treatment, the treatment device has a Sapphire tip that intensifies cooling. The wavelength pulses feel like a light snap of an elastic band. Most people describe it as a warm sensation with mild discomfort.

If the discomfort is too much, we can administer Pro-Nox (aka. laughing gas). Pro-Nox wears off quickly, so you can drive yourself home!

Your skin will be red after your treatment. The redness should subside in a few hours. You may feel a mild sunburn sensation that typically fades within the first 24 hours.

Now let’s dive into the top reasons to consider a Lumecca IPL photofacial!

#1 Fade Hyperpigmentation

Lumecca is a versatile treatment that’s effective on pigmentation caused by the mask of pregnancy, melasma mustache, dark spots, and scars of any kind. Hyperpigmentation caused by fluctuating hormones is difficult to treat and can darken and spread. Topical products deliver results but may irritate skin and take longer to deliver results. IPL provides a fast, effective, and minimally invasive alternative.

#2 Fade Sun Damage

Often referred to as sunspots, age spots, and liver spots, all are a result of sun damage. Over-exposure to sunlight and UV rays increases melanin production, resulting in sunspots. Other IPLs aren’t as effective at fading these brown and grey spots, but Lumecca outshines the competition. Sunspots can begin as early as your 20s and accelerate after the age of 50—especially on the face, neck, hands, and arms.

#3 Erase Freckles

If you were born with freckles but aren’t a fan, intense pulsed light is a way to achieve the even complexion you’ve always dreamed of. Yes, you can turn to makeup to conceal your freckles, but everyday full coverage isn’t something everyone wants to commit to. And many men aren’t open to concealing their freckles with makeup. You can fade or completely erase your freckles with IPL!

#4 Port Wine Stain Birthmarks

Birthmarks are often present at birth or they form within the first few weeks of your life. Your birthmark is unique to you, varying in color, shape, and size. While some people love their birthmark, others want it gone. If you’re ready to say goodbye to yours, Lumecca IPL photofacial is your most effective treatment option. It can be used for birthmarks anywhere on the body. You’re more likely to require 3 sessions to erase your birthmark—especially if it’s a dark port wine stain.

#5 Rosacea and Redness

In addition to fading dark spots, IPL treatments can dramatically decrease rosacea and redness. For rosacea, it dissolves the superficial veins that intensify redness. If you have active inflammation at the time of your treatment, you’ll need to reschedule.

#6 Spider Veins

Spider veins are damaged blood vessels that reside just underneath the skin. They range in color from red, blue, purple, black, and multi-colored. Spider veins are typically harmless, but you may not like their web-like appearance. Spider veins often spread, taking up larger surface areas. There are many treatment options to consider, including IPL.

#7 Acne and Acne Scars

Intense pulsed light takes a 3-pronged approach to acne. First, it fades the scars left behind from your acne and breakouts. Second, it minimizes the redness caused by acne. Third, it minimizes enlarged pores, reducing your need for pore-reducing products, most of which exacerbate your skin’s irritation. IPL is one of Valley Medical Weight Loss and Med Spa’s many acne treatment options!

#8 Whole-Body Rejuvenation

The skin issues and conditions above can occur anywhere on the body. While many aesthetic treatments can only be performed on the face and neck, Lumecca IPL photofacial can be performed almost anywhere!

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Legs
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • And more!

#9 Anti-Aging

If anti-aging is your top priority, we’re likely to suggest another treatment option. That said, when you use Lumecca to treat the conditions above, you’re likely to see improvement in skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. This is because IPL stimulates collagen production.

#10 Quick Treatment With Rapid Results

The average Lumecca treatment session takes between 20 and 30 minutes! Most IPL treatments require 3 to 6 sessions for optimal results. With Lumecca, you’ll only need between 1 and 3 treatments! Treatments are spaced out 4 to 6 weeks. You’ll see gradual improvement between treatments, with full results within 2 weeks of your final treatment.
We’ll advise on how many treatments you’re likely to require during your consultation.

Is IPL Right For Me?

All our aesthetic treatments can be combined, but some need to be strategically spaced out. Being a minimally invasive treatment with rapid results, intense pulsed light therapy is easier to combine with other treatments.

We’ll still need to space your treatment schedule to maximize results and minimize post-treatment irritation. However, the order you complete your IPL isn’t as restrictive as some of our other therapies.

Like all our aesthetic treatments, not every treatment is right for everyone. If Lumecca IPL photofacial isn’t right for you, we have other options to explore.

Lumecca might be right for you if:

You want to fade freckles, sunspots, rosacea, spider veins, acne scars, birthmarks, or most hyperpigmentation.

You have Fitzpatrick Skin Type I-IV. If your skin is darker than medium-brown, IPL may increase hyperpigmentation.

You’re overall healthy, aren’t pregnant, aren’t nursing, and your skin isn’t currently inflamed.

You haven’t been tanning or exposed to significant sunlight for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment.

How Much Does Lumecca Cost?

Price varies by the size of the treatment area, from $200* to $600* per treatment.

*Please note: Prices are subject to change.

Lumecca Procedure, Recovery, and Aftercare

Lumecca has minimal downtime. Your skin will be red and sensitive for at least 24 hours. We may tailor your pre- and post-care to your individual needs.

During Your Procedure

  1. Eye protection will be provided to shield your eyes from the bright flashes of light.
  2. A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area to facilitate light absorption and comfort. We can administer Pro-Nox upon request.
  3. The Lumecca IPL device is moved across the target area, emitting pulses of light that may feel like a light snap with an elastic band.
  4. Lumecca is equipped with a real-time cooling system, which helps maintain your comfort throughout the treatment.

Recovery and Aftercare

  • Redness: Mild redness is normal and generally subsides within a few hours.
  • Sensation: You could feel like you've been sunburned, but this typically lessens within one day.
  • 24-48 Hours: The treated areas may darken and sometimes flake off.
  • One Week: Major improvements are often visible after one week.
  • Skin Care Post-Treatment: Apply a moisturizer with SPF30+ to protect the skin from sun exposure. Avoid hot baths, saunas, and exercise for 48 hours post-treatment. Follow any personalized post-care guidelines.
