Women with PDO threads

Discover PDO Threads: A Facelift Without Surgery

With a variety of options available, many individuals are forgoing traditional facelifts and opting for non-surgical alternatives. Medspa facilities can offer patients beautiful results, and choosing a non-invasive procedure is more cost-friendly and comes with less risk. The benefit? More natural and subtle enhancements with little to no downtime, no risk of scarring, quicker treatment times, and instant results. If you feel self-conscious about your fine lines or facial wrinkles, PDO Threads might be the right choice.

What is a Non-Surgical Facelift?

Traditionally, plastic surgeons have performed facelifts for many years. As non-surgical procedures become more safe and effective, patients are becoming interested in alternatives. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that in 2020, over 13 million minimally invasive procedures were performed in the United States. This statistic is down from the previous year due to people opting out of procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trends are looking up again in 2022 as people become more comfortable with health and safety standards.

A non-surgical facelift combines minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures designed to rejuvenate and refresh someone’s appearance. These techniques do not require large incisions, general anesthesia, or overnight hospitalization compared with a surgical facelift. Patients are quickly in and out of the office, with little post-op discomfort and minimal downtime. The anti-aging results from a non-surgical facelift are significant.

Pros and Cons

  • Quick procedure
  • Minimal downtown
  • No general anesthesia
  • More cost-effective

  • Less dramatic results
  • Treatments must be repeated

Each non-surgical facelift is custom-tailored to meet the individual’s unique needs. A variety of non-invasive techniques are available, addressing anything from fine lines, deep creases, lax skin, thinning lips, sunken cheeks, large pores, acne scarring, and the loss of facial volume. Common components of a non-surgical facelift include dermal fillers, Botox, fat injections, and needleless treatments. It is important to meet with a trusted professional who will evaluate your skin and determine the best course for you. Non-invasive treatments do need to be repeated to maintain optimal results. The more diligent you are about maintaining these non-surgical treatments, the less you may need over time.

PDO Thread Lift: What is It?

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are a particular medical-grade thread that is thinner than hair and made of protein. Research has confirmed that PDO relaxes tendons and muscles. At the same time, a foreign body reaction improves the blood flow to the area, stimulating neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen in the skin). It also stimulates elastin and hyaluronic acid; both substances are key to maintaining firm, youthful-looking skin.

Thread lifts are a relatively new form of non-surgical facelift. If your face has loosening or sagging skin and you want a tighter, fresher, more youthful look, this treatment may suit you. There are no cuts or incisions, just injections. PDO threads have over a decade-long safety track record and are FDA approved.

What Areas Are Treated?

Lifting threads are best for:

  • Nasal labial folds
  • Jowl lift
  • Marionette lines
  • Non-operative facelift

Lifting threads provide immediate results that continue to improve over the six months post-procedure. The cuts or striations in these threads provide lifting properties. When placed under the skin, they catch the tissue and allow it to hold in place, creating a visible lift & at the same time, promoting the creation of collagen to revitalize skin. The “lifting threads” are used for the non-surgical facelift.

Smooth threads are best for:

  • Volume replacement (cheeks, temples, etc.)
  • Deep, static wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Vermilion border

Smooth threads aid in texture improvement, skin rejuvenation, and act as a collagen builder. The results from smooth threads are progressive rather than immediate. Typically several treatments over 3-6 months are best for optimal results.

PDO threads by MINT™ are best for:

  • A facelift without going under the knife
  • Want subtle & natural end results
  • A quick & relatively painless procedure with long-lasting results

PDO threads by MINT™ stand out from any other thread options because of the barbs that hold the suture in place. Additionally, MINT™ threads are the only FDA-approved threads for facial tissue fixation. These threads are stronger & deliver a longer-lasting lift than other types of threads. Additionally, they cause minimal tissue reaction and trauma during the procedure. Over six years of clinical studies have proven the safety and effectiveness of the MINT™ PDO. It is the only PDO suture with two FDA clearances.

What Happens During a Treatment?

After discussing your health history, current concerns, and goals, your specialist will determine if PDO threads are right for you.

Once you decide to move forward, the procedure starts with local anesthesia. Following a Lidocaine injection at the entry point, dissolvable threads are introduced into the skin through a fine needle- either into the skin itself, the muscle, or the subcutaneous fat.

Depending on the area, the procedure will take 70 to 90 minutes. After your procedure, you’ll be able to leave and return to your life, as usual, the next day. Soreness may result from the placement of the threads, and some patients experience minor bruising or swelling, but it typically resolves within a few days. With PDO threads patients need to refrain from working out for 7-10 days afterward.

While this procedure will create an immediate and natural-looking lift, the
results will improve over the next several days and weeks as the PDO stimulates neocollagenesis, increasing the amount of collagen in the skin. The skin appearance improves as the overall texture becomes thicker, tighter, and firmer, and fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.

What Results Can I Expect?

Thread-lift treatments result in an instant and natural-looking improvement in the appearance of the skin. A process of natural protein synthesis then begins after about 10-14 days. Over the subsequent weeks, results will continue to improve, peaking at around six months and lasting for up to 2 years as your body produces collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. This makes this form of non-surgical facelift a long-lasting treatment. The thread itself is completely biodegradable and dissolves within 12 weeks. New collagen has formed around the thread to continue to support results, maintaining a smooth and supple texture of the skin.

Treatment may not be suitable if:

  • You have active acne/broken skin or are prone to cold sores
  • You have taken anticoagulation medications such as aspirin/warfarin/heparin or have consumed alcohol within 48 hours of treatment. We advise you to continue taking prescribed medications but stop taking some complementary supplements such as evening primrose oil, vitamin D, A, and E, fish oils, flaxseed oil, magnesium, garlic, and ginkgo prior to treatment.

Treatment is not suitable if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have an autoimmune disease, diabetes, or infection

Best Aesthetics Treatments for Healthy and Vibrant Skin

There’s more than one way to get healthy and vibrant skin that helps you feel youthful and confident. These are the best treatments available to ask your doctor about.

Healthy-looking skin starts with how you treat it.

What’s easy to overlook is that the skin is a living organ, and it needs to be taken care of just like the rest of your body. Your skin needs regular hydration, protection from the sun, and a healthy diet to function properly.

But those aren’t the only measures to take to achieve healthy and youthful skin.

There are also a growing number of safe and effective aesthetic treatments that help your skin stay hydrated, reduce wrinkles, and keep a healthy glow. These options can not only help your skin maintain its protective barriers but also look better too.

Why not just rely on diet and regular moisturizer for healthy skin?

Your diet, water intake, moisturizing routine, and sunscreen usage are the foundation of having healthy skin. Even exercise helps you maintain healthy skin when you make sure to cleanse well after your workouts.

These work because just like your heart, lungs, liver, and brain, the skin is alive and benefits from the same healthful lifestyle as the rest of your body. A diet full of fruits and vegetables delivers antioxidants and anti-inflammatory vitamins and minerals to your skin. Staying hydrated prevents your skin from drying out and developing wrinkles. And exercise helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin, as well as promote collagen production.

But there are added benefits to improving your skin and creating a youthful glow with safe and well-studied aesthetic treatments.

1. The aging process is inevitable

No matter how healthy your diet is or how much moisturizer you use, your skin does age.

This means there will be a gradual slow down of normal processes that take care of the skin, hair, and nails. As well as changes in hormones that

This is especially true for women who go through menopause. During and after menopause, the level of estrogen drops in the body. One thing estrogen does is help keep your skin plump and youthful. This drop in estrogen is one reason why aging women often experience skin that thins and seems to sag.

Getting aesthetic treatments can help reverse and prevent this from happening in the first place.

2. Diet, exercise, and other health measures only go so far

As mentioned before, these aspects are the foundation of health.

But they cannot reverse signs of aging once they’ve already taken hold. Eating more fruit or exercising more won’t reduce the number of wrinkles on your face. But Botox and fillers can.

3. They improve self-esteem

That’s right, getting aesthetics treatments is about more than just appearance.

The research shows that getting Botox done, as an example, leads to recipients feeling measurably better in terms of self-esteem, body confidence, and overall life satisfaction for months after the procedure. When we feel good about how we look, we’re more likely to feel positive about other aspects of our lives too.

Getting a few units of Botox or filler is about taking care of yourself and taking pride in how you look. And the point of view that it’s a shameful or secret thing men and women get out of insecurity or vanity is fortunately disappearing. Because as we learn more about the way our appearance impacts how we feel, we realize it’s normal and reasonable to want to look and feel more youthful.

So what are the best aesthetics treatments for healthy and vibrant skin?

While this is not a comprehensive list of all the treatments out there, these are the procedures our patients love the most. The ones that bring them the best results and are safe, FDA-approved options.

PRP is short for platelet rich plasma. And a PRP treatment is the ultimate way to show some self-love and care for your skin.

The reason is that when applied to the skin, platelet rich plasma helps your skin attain a youthful glow by using processes your body does naturally.

The process works by taking your own blood and separating the platelet rich plasma out to apply to your skin. The platelet rich plasma is full of growth factors and healing properties that repair damage on your skin. This is compounded by combining the PRP with microneedling.

In the microneedling procedure, tiny micro-fractures are made in the skin. This prompts collagen production, which naturally happens around any injury. So when you get a PRP facial or facelift, you are bringing healing enzymes and collagen production to the surface of your skin. The end result is a dewy, youthful glow that lasts for months.

Botox is one of the oldest and most widely known aesthetic treatments around. It’s been on the market since 2002 and has proven to be safe and effective for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

It works by injecting a small amount of botulinum toxin Type A into the targeted area where you want wrinkles to be prevented or reduced. The injection works to stop communication between the nerves and muscles in that area, preventing the muscle from moving. When the muscle can’t move, the wrinkles smooth out and an anti-aging effect takes place.

There are a lot of different fillers on the market, each with slightly different results and functions. But the primary thing they have in common is that they are used to fill in deeper lines that set in as a result of aging.

Most fillers use hyaluronic acid to plump the skin and create a younger, fuller-looking face. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical your body produces to retain moisture. Over time, your body can start producing less of this, leading to dull and thin skin. Fillers help return hyaluronic acid to the skin and fill in deep lines and wrinkles.

Which aesthetic treatment for healthy and vibrant skin is right for you?

The best way to find out which aesthetic treatments are right for your skin needs is to talk to a doctor who provides these services. A doctor can do a professional assessment of your skin and get a full picture of your health to make the right decision.

PDO threads

What Happens When You Get a PDO Thread Facelift

A PDO thread facelift helps you get rejuvenating results without going under the knife for a traditional facelift

PDO thread lifts have become an increasingly popular option for anyone looking for a light procedure to reduce signs of aging.

The procedure is able to target a range of aging situations:

  • Uneven pigmentation
  • The appearance of sunken skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin elasticity

It can safely be used around the jaw, eyes, cheeks, and even neck. It’s far less expensive than a traditional facelift. And the results last at least one year, with some procedures lasting up to three years.

So here’s how the PDO thread lift works and what happens when you decide to get the procedure.

How do PDO threads work?

PDO actually stands for polydioxanone. And it’s what’s used to make dissolvable sutures for heart and other surgeries.

When a tiny amount of these sutures are injected into your skin, it triggers a process that lifts and tightens your skin.

What happens is the cells in your face called fibroblasts start to produce more collagen.

Collagen is one of many proteins your body creates and has many uses in the body. Like maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails.

Collagen is what gives your skin structure and elasticity. But as we age, we start to produce less collagen, and as a result, our skin becomes less firm and smooth.

PDO threads help you overcome this loss in collagen by prompting your body to create more around the sutures.

And because it’s minimally invasive, you have to option to combine it with other procedures like fillers.

Types of PDO threads

But PDO threads do more than just activate collagen production.

The result of using PDO threads depends on the type you get. And as part of any consultation to get PDO threads, the best type for you is chosen as part of your personalization package.

Depending on your desired results, your procedure could include any of the following types of PDO threads:

  • Screw threads that restore volume in areas your skin appears sunken
  • Mono threads that stimulate collagen production and revive your skin
  • Cog threads that that lift and support your skin and face

Benefits of PDO threads

The biggest benefit of PDO threads is that it’s a minimally invasive procedure.

All you need to get through the PDO procedure pain-free is a mild topical numbing ointment, which your specialist applies to the targeted area right before the procedure.

Because it’s minimally invasive you can expect a much lower price than a traditional facelift.

Plus, the thread lift procedure is done in less than 45 minutes with little recovery time afterward. It’s easy to fit it into a busy schedule without having to take time off work.

PDO threads also have an advantage over their similar threading counterparts.

PLLA and PLC threads are other options that are similar to PDO threads, except for one key difference…

The PDO threads are much softer which leads you’re less likely to experience swelling, tenderness, and other side effects. It amounts to getting a gentler procedure with real results that are less likely to result in complications or inflammation.

What happens during the procedure

The procedure goes by quickly because it’s minimally invasive.

First, your surgeon disinfects your face with alcohol. Once your face is properly cleaned, they apply the numbing ointment.

Then, a tiny incision is made with a thin needle and a device called a cannula is inserted into the incision. The cannula is essentially a little tube that the surgeon uses to insert the thread into the skin.

Next, your surgeon anchors the thread in the injection site and removes the cannula.

Last, they cut the thread, make sure it’s secure, and that’s it!

Some things to keep in mind after the procedure

Since a PDO thread lift is minimally invasive, there’s little recovery time and you can resume life as usual right away.

There are a couple recommendations for best results after the procedure:

  • Avoid any dental for about 3 weeks. The reason has to do with holding your mouth open and in that position for extended periods of time. Doing this soon after your thread lift procedure can impact your results
  • Sleep on your back instead of your stomach or side for about two weeks. It’s best not to put pressure directly on the face just after the procedure is done.

How to get the PDO thread procedure

The PDO thread lift is possible for just about anyone.

So if you want firmer and younger-looking skin, then PDO threads are perfect for you.

Especially if you like the idea of getting facelift results without going through the invasive procedure of the facelift.

To talk to a specialist about your desired outcomes, you can schedule a time for a consult with one of our PDO thread locations near you.
