If you’ve been thinking about starting medical weight loss programs but you’re not sure what the first visit actually looks like, this is for you. In Glendale, I meet a lot of new patients who feel excited and nervous at the same time. The biggest worry is usually simple: “Am I going to be there forever?” or “I don’t know what to expect.”
Here’s the good news: we’re a walk-in clinic, and we’re used to helping people feel comfortable quickly. Your first visit is the longest visit because it’s when we get you established. After that, the process typically feels much easier. If you want to get a feel for our Glendale service area before you come in, you can start here

How Long Does the First Visit Take?
For a new patient weight loss visit, plan on about 60 minutes from start to finish. That time includes check-in, paperwork, vitals, and time with the medical team.
Step-by-Step Timeline: What Happens From Arrival to Leaving
Here’s what the first visit usually looks like in our Glendale clinic.
1) You walk in and sign in
When you arrive, you’ll sign in on a kiosk and select that you’re a new patient. This helps our front desk team get you started quickly.
2) Front desk check-in and new patient booklet
A customer service representative will greet you, ask for an ID (driver’s license or passport), and give you a new patient booklet that includes program information and pricing. You keep this booklet, so you can review it at home later. If you prefer to come prepared, you can also review new patient forms ahead of time.
3) New patient intake form (on iPad)
You’ll be handed an iPad to complete the new patient form, including your medical history. Once you submit it, the front desk will return your ID and you’ll wait in the lobby until a medical assistant calls you back.
Typical wait time before you’re called back is about 5–10 minutes.
4) Medical assistant intake: vitals, goals, and questions
A medical assistant will bring you to a room and take vitals like:
● Blood pressure
● Weight and height
● Your goals and target weight
● Key medical intake questions
This is also when patients ask a lot of practical questions. If you’re wondering about injections, side effects, or what a weekly routine looks like, this is a good time to bring it up. You can also browse general information about weight loss injections.
5) Provider review and qualification for programs
After the intake, you’ll meet with the provider. The provider will review your medical information, go through your history, and run a pharmacy report for controlled substances to make sure everything is current and appropriate.
From there, the provider will determine what you qualify for based on your goals and medical history, and explain the options clearly.
Many patients ask about GLP-1 programs. If you’re researching before your visit, you can read more.
6) Training, checkout, and next steps
If you’re approved for a program and medication is part of your plan, you’ll get training on how to administer it. If you’re nervous about doing it yourself, you’re not alone. We can walk you through the steps, and many patients feel more confident once they’ve been shown the process.
Then you’ll check out, make payment, and head out with clear next steps.
The Questions We Hear Constantly at the Front Desk
The most common questions I hear right away are:
● “Do you take insurance?”
● “Will insurance cover it?”
● “What’s the average pricing?”
Valley Medical does not take insurance. We accept major credit cards, and we also have payment options that can help make care more manageable. You can review financing options.
Pricing can vary depending on the program. Some weekly programs start around $35, and some monthly programs start around $200 for a month of medication.
What Surprises New Patients (In a Good Way)
Two things surprise patients the most:
1. Walk-in convenience. You can come in when your schedule allows, without an appointment.
2. Free provider consultation. If you have questions at any point in your journey, you can speak with a provider. That support matters.
What You Leave With After Your First Visit
Most patients leave with:
● A new patient packet to take home
● Step-by-step instructions based on their program
● A clear idea of what happens next
Within 24–48 hours, new patients typically receive a follow-up phone call from a medical assistant to check in on progress and answer questions.

Why the First Check-In Matters So Much
The first visit sets the foundation. It’s where we learn your goals, understand your history, and make sure you have a plan that fits you. When patients stay consistent with check-ins, they tend
to see progress more clearly and stay motivated, especially when expectations are realistic and support is easy to access.
If you’re ready to walk in and ask questions, we’re here to help.
